It’s in the Clouds!

Everything was in the clouds this morning. I’d like to say the drive was the best scenery of the trip, but we’ll never know.

Continuing through the Cairngorms, it was nice, but it just wasn’t as dramatic as way up north and we both felt a bit underwhelmed. If we had’ve come here first, it would have been a completely different story.

We drove past Balmoral castle but we couldn’t see it. We did a brief stop in Braemar, which is where they have the highland games, but nothing was open as it was a Sunday.

So we decided to fast track it south, and get past Edinburgh and Glasgow, but still avoiding motorways.

The afternoon drive was a bit meh, driving through the outskirts of Edinburgh with ugly council blocks and traffic.

But we got as far south as Peebles, and I’d seen a free overnight parking spot. We drove down a narrow one laned road for a couple of miles and at the end was a carpark with a beautiful view over the valley and a stone bridge over the river Tweed.

There were a few cars parked up here, out doing day walks I guessed. But then another van arrived and we deemed it was ok to stay. And a guy was here sleeping in his car.

We had bacon, eggs and baked beans for our dinner and had a lovely quiet night.
