Butlins Day 3

oday was a much better day. We slept well in Bertie and were raring to take on the day. The great thing about sleeping in Bertie is that all our stuff is here. We can make our coffee in the morning, eat our cereal and we have a fridge to keep our food cool.

Today we took a walk along the beach into Minehead. First up, a steam train! Mike LOVES steam trains, and Nick is also a train nerd. So we watched it hook up to the passenger carriages and puff away. It was cool, and a bit sooty.

After that, the others went shopping, but I’d spied a walk around the coast I wanted to do. Any excuse to get out of shopping!

It was a really nice walk along the harbour. We came across a sign which said the southwest coastal path starts here. It’s a coastal walk all the way to Poole. I though maybe we should look at doing that some time.

We walked out to the Quay where there was a nice pub, and a couple of cafes. I had fish and chips on my mind though, and I’d seen a few fish and chip shops along the waterfront which I thought might be nice.

We continued on past the quay and we noticed a few campervans parked along the waterfront. We got chatting to a guy who is travelling with his dog. He said it’s fine to camp there overnight. It’s free after 6pm, or 7 pounds for the day. He said he’s been travelling for 6 weeks and only paid for a campground 4 times. So freedom camping can be done in England. You just have to find the spots. And this was a gorgeous spot, overlooking the water and Wales across the channel.

He also told us about a nice fish and chip shop that does senior meals! But only at lunchtime. Dammit, we were too late. We’ll go tomorrow.

We continued our walk along the southwest coastal path until it got to a steep hill. We walked up it for a bit, then decided that was enough and headed back into town.

We headed to the Tesco and bought one of their meal deals. These are pretty good value. You get a sandwich, crisps (or fruit pot) and drink for 3.85 GBP.

After that it was afternoon nap time followed by dinner at Nick and Ems place. Ems cooked us a delicious bolognaise. Then we went out for the show.

The show tonight was from a group called Diversity, who were on Britains got Talent about 20 years ago. They were pretty good and a very interactive show.

But after that show came the best part of the night. Mike, Ems and I all decided we wanted to go to the silent disco. We’d never done one before and it sounded like fun. A silent disco if you don’t know, is where you wear headphones and dance to the music (or sing along).

We arrived and they handed out headphones. Now, normally I would never wear headphones that had been on other peoples heads, but it just sounded like too much fun not to.

It was quite surreal, walking into a nightclub, and people dancing and singing but no music. We put our headphones on and immediately started singing and dancing as well. Then I took mine off, and I cracked up laughing listening to Mike singing at the top of his lungs. I told Ems to take hers off as well, and we just exploded into giggles listening to him, not having any idea how ridiculous he sounded. It was hilarious. And then they put on the singalong songs like Sweet Caroline, Mr Brightside and Wonderwall. It was so much fun and I just want to do it again!
