It was an awesome drive today.<\/p>\n
First up, we caught a ferry to avoid driving anywhere near Glasgow. It was only a 20-minute crossing and it wasn\u2019t even very busy. But when they charged us \u00a352, we balked. That was ridiculously expensive.<\/p>\n
I remember scoffing at paying \u20ac100 for a two-hour fjord cruise in Norway for us and Bertie, but this was next-level insane! And the fjord cruise in Norway turned out to be incredible \u2014 though we didn\u2019t know that at the time we paid.<\/p>\n
Anyway, that was my freakout for the day. Still better than driving the long way around via Glasgow.
\nThen came the really scenic part, driving alongside Loch Eck. What a beautiful loch. It looked more like a sound back home in New Zealand, but without anybody else there.<\/p>\n
It was mostly a driving day today. We wanted to get up into the Highlands.<\/p>\n
And then we hit them.<\/p>\n
The hills grew around us.<\/p>\n
And so did the traffic.<\/p>\n
It seems like park-ups with free dump points are now a thing of the past. But with a full pee tank, we needed to get rid of it. Campgrounds up here range from \u00a332\u2013\u00a345 a night, and it\u2019s not really in our interests to stay in places like that when all we need to do is empty the tanks and find somewhere to sleep.<\/p>\n
But we found the perfect spot at the Glencoe ski resort.<\/p>\n
It cost \u00a35 to dump our waste, \u00a35 to park overnight \u2014 technically a donation, which obviously we paid \u2014 and \u00a31 each for a nice hot shower.<\/p>\n
And as well as all that, we had an absolutely beautiful view of the Highlands. There are even 24-hour toilets here!<\/p>\n
So, for \u00a312, we considered that a bargain in this touristy part of Scotland.<\/p>\n
